Mercerised cotton – Cotton that has been subjected to a special process of mercerisation to finish the yarn. In mercerisation, the fibre is treated with alkaline substances, which are subsequently washed or evaporated to give it a shinier and stronger fibre.
Jacquard technology is characterised by alternating the warp weave in the weft to create massive relief patterns. Jacquard fabrics retain their original appearance even after repeated washing and constant mechanical stress.
Brocade – single-sided silk, cotton, woven in various weaves using precious metal or lustre yarns. It may be monochrome and decorated with small geometric or floral ornaments or large floral, anthromorphic and zoomorphic motifs. Begun in ancient Persia in the 1st century. It was particularly popular in Europe during the Renaissance and Baroque periods, when heavy, luxurious fabrics were in fashion.
